Are you ready for a real knitting adventure? Next autumn, be part of a unique knitting retreat with only 10 participants on the beautiful island of Rügen. This is your chance to devote a few days to your passion, make new friends and let yourself be pampered.

This time, together with Rabea from Schwedenrot Yarns, we are devoting ourselves to dyeing the yarn POMMERNGLÜCK. We'll discover the very special shades that can be created on the beautiful natural gray and learn about the extensive hand-dyeing process. We will explore the island's impressive landscape not only with a nature guide on the Zicker Mountains, but also on a leisurely steam ride in the "Rasende Roland". Ever wondered where the wool for the POMMERNGLÜCK yarn actually comes from? Meet the sheep themselves and chat with the coolest shepherds in the area. You'll have a blissful day entirely to yourself - whether that means needles in hand, a spa moment, or exploring Rügen's beautiful landscape. We´ll cap off the retreat with a fun pasta-making workshop at the cozy Onda restaurant and a delicious dinner together with our homemade pasta. It's the perfect way to celebrate the friendships and creativity you've cultivated all week.

the hotel

The family-run 4-star Wellnesshotel Solthus am See has been located in the midst of the breathtaking nature of the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve, right where fresh and salt water meet, for almost 25 years.

Your very own holiday oasis awaits you between Lake Sellin and Greifswald Bodden, on the beautiful Mönchgut peninsula. Situated on the shore of a natural Baltic Sea lagoon, the hotel offers a view that combines the tranquil beauty of Rügen's lakes with the vastness of the sea. A place where nature is within reach.

Look forward to a delicious breakfast, first-class regional cuisine and a spacious wellness area with swimming pool.

Meet the sheep and shepherds

The Westphal family has been farming for generations, starting in 1889 with sheep farming and breeding. Frank and Christian spent their childhood days with the black lambs of the Pomeranian sheep in the barn. For Frank, it was natural to pursue a career in agriculture, while Christian first completed an apprenticeship as a chef.

After their father's death in 2015, the brothers founded a partnership to continue their father's legacy of organic sheep farming.

Workshop with Rabea Saßmannshausen

In 2014, Rabea founded the hand-dyeing company ‘Schwedenrot Yarns’. What began as a side business developed into full self-employment in 2020. Last year, Rabea and her team moved into new company premises in Koblenz, affectionately known as the ‘Schwedenrot Loft’. As a child, she learned to knit from her grandmother, who always supported her creative passion for colours. Whether silk painting, watercolour or pottery – creative processes were always at the centre of her life and offered her a balance to her management job in an IT company. Rabea will immerse us in the fascinating secrets of dyeing, share some of her trade secrets and, in a creative process, bring the colours to POMMERNGLÜCK with us.

The workshop will be held in german. If you need translation to english, I will be there to do that.

Pasta Workshop

Damon Budd and Maria Decker are the team behind Onda in Putbus — a small, creative restaurant where local ingredients and honest cooking take center stage. Damon, originally from New Zealand, brings a playful touch to regional flavors, while Maria makes everyone feel at home with her warm, welcoming energy. Together, they’ve created a place that celebrates good food, good stories and the simple joy of sharing a meal.

After our first ride with "Rasender Roland" we will stop by Onda for a pasta workshop and a following dinner with our selfmade pasta.
