Date: March 11th - 16th, 2026

Leave behind the hustle and bustle for a magical getaway on on the idyllic island of Rügen! Join us in March for an intimate knitting retreat designed for 10 fellow fiber enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in the island's captivating landscapes while celebrating the art of knitting with POMMERNGLÜCK at its heart. This is your chance to unwind, create, and connect with kindred spirits in one of Germany's most serene destinations.

This time the german knitwear designer ChrisBerlin is joining us. Together we will dive into knitting with all the qualities of POMMERNGLÜCK and start with a new design that was created specifically for this yarn. Get ready to roam Rügen's spectacular scenery with THE nature guide leading the way through the Zicker Mountains, then settle in for a delightful puff-puff journey on the whimsical "Rasender Roland" steam train. And of course, a visit to Frank and Christian Westphal, the coolest shepherds around, is a must. They'll be available to answer any questions you may have and as an absolute highlight, we'll be able to watch lambs being born and, of course, cuddle them until they're done. Unwind with a blissful free day to knit alongside fellow enthusiasts, pamper yourself in the hotel's wellness sanctuary or venture out to discover hidden island gems at your own pace. Cap off your retreat with a hands-on pasta-making adventure at the charming Onda restaurant, crowned by a delicious shared dinner celebrating your creative escape together.

the hotel

The family-run 4-star Wellnesshotel Solthus am See has been located in the midst of the breathtaking nature of the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve, right where fresh and salt water meet, for almost 25 years.

Your very own holiday oasis awaits you between Lake Sellin and Greifswald Bodden, on the beautiful Mönchgut peninsula. Situated on the shore of a natural Baltic Sea lagoon, the hotel offers a view that combines the tranquil beauty of Rügen's lakes with the vastness of the sea. A place where nature is within reach.

Look forward to a delicious breakfast, first-class regional cuisine and a spacious wellness area with swimming pool.

Meet the sheep and shepherds

The Westphal family has been farming for generations, starting in 1889 with sheep farming and breeding. Frank and Christian spent their childhood days with the black lambs of the Pomeranian sheep in the barn. For Frank, it was natural to pursue a career in agriculture, while Christian first completed an apprenticeship as a chef.

After their father's death in 2015, the brothers founded a partnership to continue their father's legacy of organic sheep farming.

Workshop with ChrisBerlin

In the workshop with ChrisBerlin, we will knit a special design together using POMMERNGLÜCK yarn. We will cast on the design together and discuss all the important steps - from casting on stitches to patterns and yarn transitions to short rows and casting off. You will also learn how to convert your gauge to other sizes and little tricks for particularly large or small sizes.

You can chose which quality of POMMERNGLÜCK you wanna use and the adjustments to the different yarns will be explained right in the workshop.

The workshop will be held in german. If you need translation to english, I will be there to do that.

Pasta Workshop

Damon Budd and Maria Decker are the team behind Onda in Putbus — a small, creative restaurant where local ingredients and honest cooking take center stage. Damon, originally from New Zealand, brings a playful touch to regional flavors, while Maria makes everyone feel at home with her warm, welcoming energy. Together, they’ve created a place that celebrates good food, good stories and the simple joy of sharing a meal.

After our first ride with "Rasender Roland" we will stop by Onda for a pasta workshop and a following dinner with our selfmade pasta.
